Some notes on the Political situation

The worst thing about this whole Mideast mess is that I find myself totally adapted to it. A terror attack here, a terror attack there, he well, maybe I’ll order a pizza for dinner, too tired to cook tonight. Unbearable.

That f*cken suicide terrorist that explode himself in Petah-Tikva yesterday decided the best place to do it will be in a middle of a bunch of babies. Go figure. A grandmother (age 56) and her grandchild (1.5 years female baby) died in the explosion, which left the 2 young parents (married only 2 years ago, the baby was their first child) wounded badly. These are only part of the 50 woundeds/dead people. 4 are in critical condition, one of them is 3 years old girl.

Of course, the Palestinian Authority condemned the event. The not so funny joke is that the organization that did the attack is the Fatah, which as most of you know, is Yassir Arafat’s own organization.

There were more then 40 attempts of terror attacks since “Defense Wall” operation ended, 6 of those actually succeeded, the rest were stopped by Israeli security forces or were prevented thanks to pure luck. One of those “pure luck” attacks is the equivalent to USA’s Sept. 11th – there was an attempt to blow up Pi Glilot, Israel’s biggest(?) fuel and Gas storage facility. If successful, the blast
could have killed and wound thousands of people (see map).

Israeli forces keep entering quickly into palestinian settlements, arresting wanted men and exiting, which already proved to be a positive thing since several terrorists were captured minutes before leaving to perform an attack (were caught with the explosive belt on them and all). Do I like the fact Israeli forced have to do such things? No. To I think it should continue? MOST DEFIANTLY! Preventing even 1 attack is worth all the trouble and risk.

(Keep on reading…)

Another terror attack in Petah-Tikva

I’m leaving the lab now, heading home to watch the news. Basically, there was yet another terror attack. It’s everyday again. Most days we’re lucky and the security forces finds the terrorist or the bomb and prevent another blast, sometimes they manage to do it twice a day. But every day or two one of those bastards slips through and causes havok. I’ll write some more of my mind of this tomorrow. I just hope they will be able to save the 18-months baby which was hospitalized in critical condition.

Some news reports: Haaretz, CNN, BBC, YNet (hebrew), Ynet (arabic).

1st Place at EarthCam

Holy Moses, I’m 1st place at EarthCam top 10 and I still got all my cloths on! Well, I *did* used a dirty trick, apperantly. I use several cam software and one of them (supervisionCam) sends images to my server under the name svc_tc.jpg. For some reason, Earthcam keep showing that image, instead of my regular one, and that last picture there is of Moonlight. So basically, Moonlight’s picture is probably responsible for the rank going from 3rd to 1st. But then again, it’s not like SHE had to take any cloths off, either! :)

So, for all the new visitors, Welcome!

Politics in eurovision

I hate to give the Eurovision another post. It was fun for 1 evening, specially since I couldn’t avoid watching it (Moonlight insisted). However, I’d like to comment about Politics in the Eurovision.

I’m probably too naive when it comes to politics. I know that the eurovision votings were done by people calling a number in their homeland, so I thought a mass of people will result in better voting due to statistical reasons (more people will vote according to music preference then according to political view). Apparently, Swedes, Belgians told not to vote for Israel in Eurovision by the official TV broadcast. Yea, I know, Michal, the Israeli votes girl, had 2 sentences which sounded a bit political as well, which I found annoying and embarrassing, but still, there’s a difference between unplaced patriotism and actual hostility.

I’ve tried to ask some friends at IRC if that is true, but (as I expected) none of them bothered to watch the eurovision at all. Anyway, if this story is true, it’s very unacceptable and really offending. I still enjoyed the swedish songs, and I got swedish friends, but at the official level, I thing israel should check this out and present an official protest to both countries.

Eurovision Broadcast

Eurovision is over now, Israel on the 12th place, Latvia won and Malta 2nd. First I want to state I’m not a eurovision fan, and if not for Moonlight, I wouldn’t’ be sitting and watching it. Didn’t watch it for several years, tell you the truth. But still, if we watch it – better enjoy it.

All in all it was a nice show. Made moonlight and me sleep late and get up early to catch the bus to Jerusalem to reach our lectures on time, but hey, atleast we had fun.

Anyway, here is my review of the contest:

Weekend again. Eurovision tonight.

Weekened again. Thank god. Yonit and me arrived at my home in Ashkelon on thursday evening. On friday Nir and his new girlfriend, Michal, came to visit us (in the picture). Was really nice, dispite the fact Nir had tried to tell some jokes. Hey, atleast I’ve learned that fish have 40 seconds of memory. You keep learning every day!

Late Submissions

Why does it always happens to me?
Why can’t I read the submission dates properly?!

Yea, yea, just found out I’m late on yet ANOTHER exercise! I was POSITIVE it’s due on the 26th, which means I still got a week, only to found out today it was really due on the 16th, which means I’m late in 4 days! Damn it, This is the 3rd time I’m late in this course, and I didn’t submit those past 2 exercises I was late on, eventually. And what angers me most, is that these are REALLY SIMPLE programming exercises! I put less then a day or two coding on each!!

Damn!
(I’ve just noticed I’m now 2nd on EarthCam Top Ten. Wow!)

Suicide Terrorist attack in Natanya

Not that I usually mention this on my site, but I’m really tierd from this shit. There was a terror attack in Natanya, a city in the center of Israel (Moonlight’s city, we’re there almost every second weekend or so). English readers can check out ABCnews report, the BBC Report or the Jerusalem Post one. Hebrew readers probably have already checked Ynet’s report (which also offers it in arabic). (photo: AP)

So far there are 3 dead (terrorist included) and 50 wounded result from a suicide bomber exploding in the market. Some structures collapsed, hurting more people. (The numbers are according to Israeli media, the most reliable source especially on this issue). Well, frankly I’m quite impressed from the efficiency of the israeli defense forces. Since operation “Defensive Wall” security forces have caught at least 23 terrorists while on their way to explode (not counting “planners”, but real terrorist already with explosives on their bodies). So, as bad as it sounds, missing 2 terrorists out of 25 is really good, imho. (the other terrorist being the one from the attack 10 days ago in Rishon LeZion).
(Note: seems I’ve forgotten the terror attack in Beer-Sheva on May 10th. Thanks Michal)

I can already see the discussion going to be on the GlobalAffairs Forum

Thumbs-War movie & Science Articles

I’ll be short this time since I got lots of code to do, and I need to add all the light-related code in my current opengl application.

Check out this movie called Thumb Wars, which is an excellent, well made parody of Star Wars. Really funny! (I got it from Mike’s movies page, just to give credit where it’s due).

Here are articles I want to read later:

Shavuot Weekend

Well, it’s been an excellent weekend, despite the fact I had to be apaert of Moonlight. We did the holyday (Shavuot) at my aunt’s house, in Ashdod, and returned Home to Ashekon yesterday (friday). At the evening Eyal came and we waited for Yossi to go to see BLADE 2. In the meenwhile I’ve showed Eyal the Street Fighter 2 scene from Jackie Chan’s movie ‘City Hunter’. It’s absoluty a must for anyone that remembers the game from childhood – really funny! By the way, this page got lots of other funny clips, check it out.

After the movie we came back to my home, and yossi brought his Playstation 2. We played Grand Theft Auto III and some game called Godai, which was really crappy, but it offered a ninja dual. After Eyal and Yossi left, I kept on playing the Grand Theft Auto III untill 5:30am… (Can’t say I was making many of the missions – I was more busy running away from cops the whole time. With the amount of forces the police in the game used when I “only” had wanted level 5, I don’t even WANT to see what happens if you survive long enough doing shit and reach to wanted level 10…)

Also, I want you to hear this hilirious voice box. I called Galit, a friend, to see if she happens to be in the area, and I got this voice msg. It was so good I had to record it.

A little side note – I’ve updated my CivaxCam 5 Album on the Gallery. Check it out.

Shavuot

My friend, Conex, sent me this and added it’s npt personal. yea, right. (You just wait, Avi, I’ll catch you some day!)

My friends and me decided to buy a little gift to Yossi, for his upcoming merriage. Since he got a Playstation 2 but no games to play, we’re going to buy him a game. It will naturally be a fighting game, so he’ll have to invite all of us everytime he’ll want to play. We just need to choose which one. Eyal and me thinks that Tekken 4 might be a little boring (after we already played almost every previous Tekken), and according to This article on gamespot, seems that Virtua Fighter 4 is what we should look up for.
