Who’s the bad side? (according to Spiegel.de)

Here is something that pissed me off. There are plenty of news sites, and you can actually see what’s the site’s opinion by the art they use. I went to read what European news sites report about the attack in my university. I also reached the german Spiegle.de. And what have I saw, above and beside the article reporting the 7 dead and 80 wounded? I found these:

Have a look – the left eyes are from a picture of Sharon, Israeli prime minister, and the right is of Arafat. Tell me, according to the picture, who is the evil guy here? Who’s being showed as a conspiring jew and who is being shown as a saint dreamer ? This shows taking pro-palestinian stand and demonizing Israel and not objectivity. They could have taken any other pictures, but they chose these.

Suicide bombing in my university…

A suicide attack just took place in Har HaZofim campus (mout scoupus) – it is the main campus of the hebrew university and the place attacked is the kafiteria in the same bulding of the management offices. I was just about to head there to make a new student ID (lost mine) when I heard the news.

There are dead, serious wounded and all. Horrible sights. I’m off, I might be reporting more later.

Damn, it just happen now, no one knows exactly knows what happens, the radio says atleast 30 wounds and there are some dead – it’s still uncirtain since the whole thing is taking place RIGHT NOW, so no information. Still wounded in the attack place, geting medical care, many students are in shock.

God damn it. and I thought University is the safest place there is. Never even imagined there is a chance they will attack inside a uniersity – there are arab students also!!

Shit. Gotta call my mom, she’s probably hysteric.

Update at 15:35
Current news reports 6 dead and around 83 wounded, among them a group of foreign exchange students, a group of newcomers and visitors to the Bezalel Art school exhibit. 10 of the wounded are in critical condition (which means there’s a risk of dead count rising).

Turned out my mom forgot the cellphone at home when she left to work and that’s why she didn’t answer all my calls. On the way back, in the bus, she heard about the attack – which was a bomb, not a suicide bomber – and got hysteric. The bus driver went out of his route a little and brought her straight to the house, with the support of the other passengers, and after she couldn’t catch me on the phone (cellphones networks were so crowded they fell down) so she called Moonlight. Moonlight called me to the lab from her lab and asked me to call home since my mom is hysteric and I called her on the regular phone to calm her down. Lots of friends called so far, and I told them the attack was in the main campus, not in ours (the exact sciences faculty got it’s own campus on the other side of the city).

Dispute origins

I happen to encounter several comments and emails regard the israeli-palestinian dispute as one which originated in the far past and which continues till today. Take Stephen Jeffreys’ comment for exampl, which wrote “I still belive though, both Israel and Pallistine are fighting an inherited war. The events may change, and the reasons may very from person to person, but, hate, and death is the same as it was 5000 years ago.”.

Just to keep facts right, the whole dispute is being going on only for the past 100 years (more or less). Not only that, but there are some people, on both sides, that took part in all the wars that erupted here even before the becoming of Israel (which is only 54 years old, mind you!) – which means this isn’t an ‘inherited’ war, which reasons have lost in time.

In addition, the whole conflict is the ordinary, wide spread, land dispute. People packed religion

HOLY MOSES!
Damn, there was a terror attack in the university… I’ll be updating in a second

EverGreen Show

Yesterday moonlight and I went to see a preformance of Evergreen in the ENAV culture center in Tel Aviv. I would be honest and edmit I wasn’t expecting too much. I’ve listened to Irish music in pubs around Ireland and ofcourse listen to commercial artists like Clannad and Altan. That’s beside of listening to popular Irish music as in the shows Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. An Israeli band playing Irish music? Well, that sounded nice but I didn’t expect alot.

And boy, was I surprised. These guys were GOOD. Really good!
I’m not going to write a whole criticsm here, but these guys are really good. The show was too formal, as almost all live Irish sessions I’ve experienced were in pubs or a place with similar atmosphere, but the Evergreen members did a fine job anyay.

If you want a taste of them check out these MP3 files they posted on mp3.com

The missile attack in Gaza – opinion

Well, since some of you asked I might just as well post my opinion. I’ll be quick about it though, got an exam on sunday and I’ve got to learn more…

First, I don’t think anyone question, or should question, the targeting of cheif terrorists by the Israeli army. By definition, eliminations attack (reffered as “pointed elimination” in israel) isn’t being done against every terrorist, only the ones considered “ticking bombs” accoriding to intelligence (not stopping them immediatly means a terror attack is going to happen within hours). So, I feel no problem with the attemt to eliminate Salah Sh’hada (which, accroding to what been said, was the original founder of the Hamas military arm and served as it’s head commander).

However, there WAS a serious failure in this operation. According to the israeli media reports, the intelligence report handed out to the decision makers (ever pointed elimination must be approved by government members, the army can’t approve such a thing) said the effect of the bomb on the other buildings around will be “minor”. As we know now, that intelligence report was wrong.

Saturday’s Genetic algorithms thoughts

ALIFE! I’m waiting for moonlight and then we’ll go to my flat. Not been a very effective day, I was slow with my studies today :( . Anyway, I’ve just ordered a pizza which means I gotta be at home within the next 30 minutes to accept it.

I got hooked on Genetic Algorithms again. I’m looking for an interesting subject that can be used as a small research issue, whuch should relate to Graphics, naturally. This program, for example, is showing a really cool way to produce some kind of bugs, depending on thier parents properties. I was coded by Peter Suter, for flipcode‘s contest about Bugs. (check out the source code. There’s another cool (non-genetic) program by Sol featuring Ant colony with smell sense… cute!)

Ok, Moonlight’s reaady, I’m off!

Another attack. 2nd in a row.

Hmpf. Here goes another one. At least 7 died and 30 wounded in a terrorist attack in the old central bus station in Tel aviv. The whole thing happened just minutes ago, so I only have some of the info. Seems it was done by 2 suicide bombers and they exploded among mostly foreign workers from Poland. As e speak there is also a chase after 2 suspect on a road near Qalkilya. 1 of the suspects was shot and was found to be a palestinian, armed with a gun. Seems the other one got away, though the chase continues.

One of the media reporters said our army in the territories target mostly Tanzim and Fatach terrorists and the Hammas, being a smaller and more discreet organization, isn’t badly hurt as the others.

I’m going to pick up moonlight and head home. Had enough for one day.
BTW, you might want to read a report how “jenin massacre” story originated.

Another Terror Attack

Seems the quiet was temporary. The only reason the past 26 days went without any terror attacks is the strong curfew of all major palestinian cities ans few of the villages. In these 26 days around 15 suicide bombers were cought before they were able to leave into Israel. The PA, needless to say, supported some of them financially and didn’t bother to stop the others.

The most horrile story I heard from this attack is the one of the pregnent woman, that was hurt severly and the doctors had to remove the baby out. They worked hard all night to make them both live but the baby died this morning. The woman is still in serious condition.

I’ll quote some news sources:

Exams period. Bluaaa…

The beutifull wall clock Moonlight gave me as a present for my last birthday! I’m in a middle of my end term exams and am doing my best to score the maximum. All this massive learning is both boring and hard, but you gotta do what you gotta do… :)

It’s summer now, and for most kids around Israel it’s time to go to the Keytana. My cousin Mishael is staying with our family in Ashkelon just for that. Well, the truth is that he’s an assistant instructor but hey, who notices?! (he’s that giant kid counting the little ones. Here is another picture) Anyway, when he’s not breaking up fights or try to get the kids to stand in pairs, he’s playing Civilization 3 on my computer.

Moonlight and me spent the weekend at my home, though we had plenty of guests. My aunt Odet (which for some reason turned religious all of a sudden), my cousin Igal, his wife Eveline and 2 of their kids – Or and the newborn Gil. (I made a whole album for this cute 2 weeks old girl!) I was fun being at home for a while but exams are upon us and Moonlight and me returned to Jerusalem on Saturday.

Before the weekend, btw, we had another IGDA meeting which went excellent. I haven’t wrote up a report yet, but you can already look at the pictures. (the ones at the end)

For a last note, I would like to post a link here a site dedicated to the memory of Shiri Negari, who was killed in the Bus Terror attack in Jerusalem a few weeks ago. The family had organized the site, which is very personal. Really touching. Pay it a visit.

That’s all for now, I’ll be back later, when I’ll have more time on my hands. Wish me luck in my exams.

Updates and old interview

Busy busy busy learning for end-term exams.
However, found time to add my dumptga code to the code page (dumps current frame from opengl to a targa file). In addition, I’ve found an old interview I had with PS of DemoJournal. I said some really bizzar things there, really funny… (if you’re not into the demo scene this interview will include issues and words you’re not fimiliar with. But have it a go anyway…)

* Disclaimer: The interview caught me during a demo party, I was slightly drunk and very tierd. None of the views I present there could be used against me ever! Actually, I never said them, either!
